2008 Scholarship Program Information
Award Specifics
- Two $500 scholarships are awarded annually to students who are interested in pursuing a career in the insurance or financial services industry and that meet the requirements set out below.
- At least one of the scholarships will be awarded to a qualified LOMA designee or their immediate family member.
- In the absence of qualified applicants, both awards may be awarded to non members.
- The award may be used for educational expenses at an accredited institution of higher education.
- The award is for one year only; an applicants must reapply for future years.
- By applying, the applicant agrees to attend our annual Fall Dinner to be recognized.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- Applicant is a member of the LOMA Society of Central Illinois.
- Applicant is an immediate family member of a LOMA Society of Central Illinois member. We define an immediate family member as a grandparent, parent, step parent, spouse, domestic partner, child, step-child, grandchild, brother, step brother, sister, step sister, foster child, foster parent, adoptive child, adoptive parent, legal ward and any other individuals not mentioned that can be claimed as dependants according to the US federal tax code by a Society Member, Spouse or domestic partner. We define current society member to be a member who is in a dues paying or non dues paying status with the LOMA Society of Central Illinois. Members and immediate family members of those serving on the Education Committee, its sub committees and the Board of Directors are excluded from consideration.
- Applicant must be enrolled full-time at a college or university located in central Illinoi.s
- Applicant must demonstrate academic potential, with a GPA of at least 3.0 or equivalent.
- Applicant must be interested in pursuing a career in the insurance, business or financial services industry.
- Applicant must have reached sophomore standing in credit hours.
What to Submit
- Completed Application
- Most recent transcript or grade report
- Two letters of recommendation
- A typed statement of your educational and career goals, approximately 500 words
Application period is from April 15 through June 2nd 2008 (postmark). Recipients will be notified July 1st.
