The positions of Secretary and President are up for election this October with results announced at the Fall Meeting on Novemeber 1st.    Application forms will be out in mid September.


9.1.2007

LSCI will be taking on the USMC Reserves in a paintball challange on October 6th.  More information coming soon.


8.10.2007

LSCI has won its first Oustanding Society Awards since reinstatement in 2004.  This year, LSCI has been recongized by LOMA in three catagories,  Communication, Education and Membership.  LSCI will be presented three plaques for their achievment at the 2007 National Convention.   Learn how we did it here.


8.1.2007

LSCI  Board of Directors would like to introduce your new interm Vice President Nicole Perez.  In an emergency meeting of the board of directors, the board voted to appoint Nicole to the positions of Vice President and Events Committee Chair.   On July 1st, the current Vice President, Don Widener resigned his position with LSCI because he was relocating his family to Florida to begin a career in primary education.  LSCI thanks Don for all of his hard work and wishes him and his family the best.

Nicole will take the reins officaily August 1st and will begin immedialty to oversee all LSCI events.  She will retain the Vice Presidency at least until the November 2008 Elections.

Spring Meeting will be held at the Interstate Center in Bloomington on Thursday, Aprill 12th.  Featured Guest Speaker will be Lou Lower, CEO of Horace Mann Companies in Springfield and prior Chairman of the LOMA Board of Directors.  We are very excited about having Mr. Lower visit with us and hope you will join us for what will be a fantastic networking and educational opportunity.

Horace Mann provides insurance to a unique group of customers in an environment that most of our members are not familar with and Mr. Lower will be there to discuss with us about 'Winning in a Niche Environment.'

Be sure to look for the official announcement the week of 3/19 and register early.

2.28.2007

The society held its first event of 2007 and first ever lunch event at the Doubletree Convention Center in Bloomington on Wednesday, February 28, 2007.   In attendance were over 100 soceity members from the Bloomington / Normal area and a few even braved hazardous driving conditions and drove up from Springfield.

The featured speaker for the day was Doug Rosenbaum,  a Professional Financial Advisor and an active National Football League Line Judge.  Doug, a managing director at Conquest Financial in Bloomington.  spoke with the members about new tax advatages,  tax shelters and new tax laws such as what level of contribution is now allowable in retirment plans.  He then moved onto how to diversify risk and how to correctly use diversification to protect your investments.   Along with a few questions about his NFL position he answered many questions personal investing.

LSCI would like to thank Doug for visiting with us and hope he will come back again.  LSCI would also like to thank the Doubletree  Convention Center for having us.

LSCI took 3rd place in the the society booth challange at the 2006 national convention.  This was following a first place showing in 2005.

Report on Learning Management Systems
LOMA recently conducted a comprehensive survey featuring highlights and insights from LOMA’s global members regarding their learning management practices and adoption of Learning Management Systems (LMS). Nearly 300 companies responded to the survey, and a new report, free for download to LOMA members, presents highlights of the results.
